The Origin of The Prototypes...
Paris; November 15th, 2015…
It’s 2 days after the Paris attacks of 2015 and I’m on sight in Europe; Le Marais district of Paris to be exact; for the first time. I was abroad for my new job I was recently hired for, to learn my new role as a custom watch maker for a brand I was working for at the time. The Parisians were shaken up as well as in a state of devastation over the attacks and there I was, on a solo mission, navigating through a town filled with sorrow, torment, and despair.
I felt for the people. Coming from Brooklyn, NY and experiencing 9/11 at the age of 14, this was equivalent to such tragic events. It didn’t bother me as much being amongst the hostile environment for any safety reasons. I had one objective, learn my job and come back to NYC to be the best custom watch maker there is.
Now I’m on my apprenticeship in Paris, working on wrist watches and the fascination hits once I see a dissected timepiece. That was were the dream came alive. Apply acrylic paint and case it all back up. By 2016 my SOHO connections made it all come to life. ATTIE then had the foundational workings, I just needed to separate myself from my 9-5 wrist watch job, and create my own identity, which is when I went to the pocket watch.
Few years past…
I left The ATTIE Project alone for about 2.5 years and then a global pandemic strikes in 2020 where I had to move back to my grandmom’s bedside for her assistance. She’s been battling dementia for 10 years and I’m eager to get The ATTIE Project rolling again, but I got a lot on my mind at this point so I get to work.
I’m new to art scene so I keep it simple by drawing a face everyday until I get the hang of it. Everyday, a pair of eyes, a nose, and a mouth, repeatedly until I was comfortable to bring it back to my original canvas, the pocket watch. By holiday season 2020, I came across some wholesale pocket watches to sample on and created an abundance of one of a kind artifacts. Originally deemed “The Black Voice White Noise” Collection I wanted to give consumers automatic affiliation to being a part of a fresh, new, project which enables and encourages individuals to pursue their passions and dreams. The pocket watches were too fragile to sell as functional timepieces after they were made so I chose to label them as non-functional for the brutal processing they’ve been through during production. It is recommended The Prototype be used strictly for display purposes only for this matter.
Hand painted with variety of acrylic paint, gold leaf accents, and Sakura pigment pens, these one of one artifacts are small in stature but tremendous in spirit. Representing courage, ambition, fearlessness, and bravery, investing in an ATTIE Prototype indicates you believe in what The ATTIE Project stands for.
Community along with sustainability is what really brings The Prototype to life. We seek to find those who show the same interest. Those seeking community, and seeing growth amongst not just the adolescent, but real people, in real time, in real life. Bringing a new meaningful life-form to what some may consider ‘rubbish’, The ATTIE Project has an enormous amount of potential in which I would love to continue to share with the world, and it all begins with you believing in that potential as well.
