-Facing Phases-
Eyes, nose, mouth. These are the most focal features of a face.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever explained the faces I create…
So I’ll spend some time breaking down the facial features of an ATTIE.
As you see each creation is made into what can be described as a face…
BUT!
Each face is going through what seems to be a metaphysical shift. Whether you see sorrow, anger, lust, contentment in the eyes, or wild, spontaneous, indescribable facial structures, these abstract pieces are war ready soldiers, ready to stand the battle against any type of time.
I’ve created so many different outlooks to it…it’s hard to keep up…
There’s an alien fugitive theory, emotional warriors theory, a theory on how these ATTIE faces are just lifers caught in the loop of time. Some are playful, some are lusty, some have purpose and others don’t. There is no solid reasoning behind any creations in particular but know every piece is made to be one of a kind. Truth of the matter is these faces consist of dimensions. Energies and auras from within and without.
FACES TO PHASES…
So I’m banging out pieces, and I’m linking with my artist homie Chris having art talks. At this point I’ve discovered the wonders of white paint. Intrigued to learn more, I’m sharing my experiences on this art journey and he breaks down to me, everything takes time. He got pieces from High School he still hadn’t finished. So pretty much moral of that story was slow down. But it made me question….
Are these faces ever really finished?
I get back in the lab.
I’m fresh off Colombia and the creative juices are flowing…
I’m doing this ATTIE home shoot one weekend and i start to open up older pieces I labeled as completed and start to apply paint. I apply, take away, apply takeaway, on a number of pieces. This is when I experienced evolution in my work, these faces were going through evolutional phases as well.
I think I’m onto something…
This helps me ‘take my time’ with what I create. A taste of my own medicine if you will. The process to me breaks things down to remembering nothing can be solved overnight. All creations takes time to transfer from thought to existence. The ups & the downs are a part of it all and sometimes it’s just best to step away and come back at a later time. Similar to writer’s block, artist black out in moments and have to step away some days, months, even years.
THIS IS ART THERAPY!
I started this project with intentions of finding a process of healing, and here it was. As time goes by through creating I’m constantly reminded of simplest key to life. There are moments we are forced to slow it down and just let it come to you when the time is right.
